Blog Journal 4 Online
Hi Blog,
I enjoy blogging! I sort of do it already on my own, but instead of online, I do it in a journal. I have always been a fan of free writing or prompt writing, so blogging or digital journaling has always been something that I have enjoyed. I have never used Blogger before, but because of our class's use of the website, it has quickly become a tool that I enjoy using. Though I can't say that it is more enjoyable than physically journaling with a pen and notebook. I love completely decorating every single crevice of my journals and notebooks with doodles and stickers, or things that I have found throughout my days. Although Blogger is very customizable, I cannot put my Blog in my hand and drop it in some mud, permanently staining it with a memory. Blogging or journaling is such a personal art, and whenever I want to be vulnerable and personal, I like to be as true to myself as possible.
My husband showed me a tool that I use for both education and personal uses! Called Obsidian , it is a personal notes app that you can download onto your desktop that is the perfect note taking, resource keeping app. It is sleek and easy to use, very customizable (which y'all know I love) and is completely free. As a teacher, it would be so easy to sort resources, write detailed notes and insert images for lesson plans. The tool also contains a Generative AI tool that helps sort your notes, as well as answering questions.
I am not the biggest Generative AI user nor do I really enjoy the implications of using such a tool. Though it definitely has its many advantages, I personally feel as though it takes the soul out of doing work and tasks. My husband uses it sometimes to ask it questions about design, he also will create assets for his art using AI, although he is not a "Prompt Engineer", he always wants me to make it SUPER clear that he does not make "AI Art". One time, I used ChatGPT to help create lore for a Dungeons and Dragons campaign that I created, however, in the back of my mind I felt guilty using it. I know that many Generative AI websites get their data from websites that host writings. As a writer myself that posts online, I would be so upset to find out that something I wrote was used without my knowledge to train AI.
I really don't know how I would use Generative AI in my teaching or classroom. I would definitely stress the importance of not using Generative AI to complete assignments, although I really hope that is not an issue for Kindergartners. I think eventually, it will become very important to teach children how to identify AI generated images and texts. There is something very important about integrity and credibility that I feel Generative AI does not care about. I would teach the importance of self integrity when it comes to completing tasks, that you need to rely on yourself and not AI to help you in not just education, but life itself.
